The Bun Mobile (ever changing location)


There's 'The Great Food Truck Race' in America and finally... there's the pioneer gourmet truck in Brisbane. Yup, you heard me correctly ... in Brisbane! It's known as 'The Bun Mobile'. 


This gourmet food truck, inspired by Harry and Christine Fleming, serves up hand crafted steamed buns at various locations across Brisbane. Currently, they have three mouthwatering items up for grab and they promise more variation is on the way!

All at the price of $8 (cash only, but Eftpos available in two weeks time), they have:

1) Twice cooked pork, hoisin sauce, sakura pickled cucumber and shallot batons
2) Slow cooked WAGYU beef, butter lettuce, soy pickled shitake mushrooms and red dragon sauce
3) Char grilled teriyaki chicken, slaw with julienne carrot and mint, japanese mayo and hoisin sauce

Guess which one I choose? I was tossing between the pork and chicken ....

It was lovely! The chicken meat was real tender and grilled to perfection. I've been told that the meats have been sous-vide (a method of cooking food sealed in airtight bags in a water bath); that is why the flavour was so good. The addition of coleslaw added a crunchy texture and fresh taste to the whole bun. Last but not least, the steamed bun itself, slathered with hoisin sauce was soft and fluffy making this bun complete.

This Asian fusion inspired bun gourmet truck is probably going to pave way for more 'gourmet truckers' in the future! I'll have to track them down again for other buns.

Tibetan Kitchen, West End Finally, I have the time to catch up on blogging! Yay! After a sweaty and tired workout in Urban Climb for an indoor rock-climbing (more than a month ago!) , the five of us made our way to Tibetan Kitchen for a late dinner. It was a Friday night and there was people bustling around Trang and its neighbour, Tibetan Kitchen. Haven't had the taste or any clues about Tibetan food, we were lucky because one of our company had spent his time in Tibet for a month. He did warned us beforehand that the food here wasn't as authentic as the food in Tibet though.  Anyway, after much contemplation, we ordered: Pakhora Onion Baje - 6.90 Crispy fried onion patties served with yoghurt & cucumber sauce The pakhora was all right. Newmarket Hotel

  Newmarket Hotel, Newmarket  Newmarket Hotel has been on our regular place to visit as it is quite a family friendly restaurant; and obviously quite close to home. It can get quite busy at times but as we usually dine when restaurants open (5 or 5.30pm) so it was not too bad. Parking is ample with the complex's undercover parking. What I love about Newmarket hotel is that they do have kid's meal and Grace always enjoy their chicken tenders. Yay! The kid's meal come with a drink (and the drink container can be brought home) and ice cream for dessert. No photo for her meal but we ordered it with steamed vegetables. If you are a seafood lover, give their calamari a go! They are beautifully crumbed and cooked just right. This is an entree size but you can upgrade to the main size. Milk Cafe, Ashgrove

  Milk Cafe, Ashgrove Throwback to late last year when we visited Milk Cafe in Ashgrove. It is just adjacent to Woolworths Ashgrove and you will not miss it. Plenty of parking is available in the complex. Famous for its milkshake, we did not order any as we get quite apprehensive when the kids are so high in sugar 😅. I could not remember the exact dish we had that day but the first dish was poached eggs with bacon, and cripsy potatoes with addition of haloumi. Little M dislikes cheese but she will gobble up the haloumi in no time. We had the pancakes as well and they were fluffy and soft. The girls thankfully enjoyed them, as sometimes they can be picky with their food.  The indoor setting is reasonably large and there is outdoor setting as well.
