The Vietnamese

The Vietnamese, Fortitude Valley

Together with SaC, we visited The Vietnamese after giving an opposite restaurant a flick due to its emptiness. Glancing around, we noticed that this restaurant seemed to be quite happening. It's not your high end restaurant but a simple, bustling place ... maybe too close to your surrounding diners. You can't even escape the 'plumes of smoke' when someone ordered a sizzling dish.

Anyway, we ordered Vietnamese spring rolls for entree:

Fresh Shrimp and Pork Rolls (4) - $7.50

The rolls were pretty good, simple and delicious. The dipping sauce is quite different from what I used to have. The consistency of the sauce was thicker than usual and I like the addition of the crushed peanuts, giving it a crunchier texture.

For mains, we tried one of the traditional Vietnamese dishes:
Vietnamese Style Claypot with chicken- $18.50

I've certainly haven't tried any Vietnamese claypot before and could not make any judgement. It was a 'so-so' dish, with quite salty gravy base and lots of mix vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu etc). Luckily, we have some rice to eat with this dish.

Another dish that we ordered was rice vermicelli. Instead of my usual pork, I ordered the ones with sugar cane prawn.

Rice Vermicelli with sugar cane prawn - $10

It was all right but definitely not the best one I had so far. Not trying to sound too critical here, but the sugar cane prawn was too salty in my opinion.

We must have ordered the wrong dish since this place has quite a high rating. Will I be back though? -_-
