Melbourne: The Hardware Societe

The Hardware Societe, CBD, Melbourne

Number 1 List on Melbourne Urbanspoon?

Oh yeah, I definitely need to give it a go! After staying in Melbourne for a few days and having learnt the sense of direction of Melbourne CBD (way easier than Brisbane CBD), I found The Hardware Societe without any difficulties.

I fall in love with this place immediately. Love their decor and the ambience! I was seated on the high set tables facing the kitchen and it was awesome ... Observing the chef preparing food all the time with such calmness and excellent manual dexterity!

My jaw dropped reading through their menu ... There's too much that I wanted to try but the worst possible fear was 'NO EFTPOS'!. Luckily, I still have some cash to afford a meal and a cup of coffee.

Hardware Societe's Menu

So many kinds of egg version available from baked, fried, omelette, scrambled, coddled and cocette eggs! Finally, I chose the baked eggs with mushrooms, creme fraiche, gruyere and sage.

But first, a cuppa of flat white.

Skinny Flat White -$3.50

The temperature was perfect with a smooth consistency, although I would have preferred the coffee to be a little hotter. Is it a doughnut that came with the coffee? Possibly... it was delicious nonetheless.

Finally, my meal arrived. One thing you will notice is that they use a lot of EVOO in their dishes. Simple toasts drizzled with EVOO and they certainly provide a different texture to the baked eggs.

Baked Eggs with Mushrooms -$18

I love the combination of mushrooms and the gruyere cheese. Digging through, I was happy to know that the egg yolks weren't overcooked. Silently, I finish my meal with a smile at heart.

Overall, I had a good dining experience here. I wonder when I will be back again? *wishful*

  1. I'm definitely going to try this place next time I go down to Melbourne. Looks awesome!
(Also, instead of studying for MH, I'm procrastinating by reading your blog, much more enjoyable. :D)

Just saw your to do list (I have so many ones in common! eg. macarons, doing the BtoB, archery etc.), and thought I'd let you know that I made Hollandaise sauce a couple of weeks ago! It was actually a lot easier than I expected and tasted pretty good! Don't know if you would want to recipe or not? I felt that it was really explained very well, and simple to follow.
