Udonya Tokoton

Image
Udonya Tokoton, Sunnybank I have walked past this Japanese restaurant but have never actually set foot until recently. I surely have been missing out on this little gem! It took some time to figure out their ordering system but it is really pretty straightforward.  You can start by deciding whether you want rice or noodles (soba vs udon) with the size of either Medium or Large and then proceed to adding some side dishes if you want to. The side dishes are all ready made and you can choose and pick whatever you like (obviously with additional cost for each item).  We took the in-laws that day and they are more interested in the side dishes and they chose some soft shell crabs, prawn tempura, kakiage (vegetable tempura), sweet potato tempura and also some fish cake like tempura. Who does not like tempura or fried food? They were all pretty tasty and still retained the crispiness. As for the main meals, I ordered the large Karaage chicken rice bowl and a...

Southside Bistro

Image
Southside Bistro, Sunnybank On a rather early weekend, Mr and myself visited Southside Bistro prior to visiting the in-law. We normally visit the Asian breakfast places in Sunnybank and this time decided to give Southside Bistro a go, especially when we can utilise the Entertainment book voucher. Their menu here is very enticing with Asian influenced dishes. I was definitely keen to try a few of them and in the end, I chose the 'Breakfast Puffle ' just because I want some egg puffles! It is a fusion Asian breakfast (oolong egg tea, rice with Kimchi and also some pork floss) and was topped with deep fried youtiao (aka fried chinese bread stick). It all does sound good right? Breakfast puffle But I was quite disappointed with this dish... The puffle does not taste like it was freshly made, the rice was not warm enough (more like lukewarm for me) and overall, quite a dry dish with the sauce being only mayo. Hmm... my excitement has definitely dwindled down after this di...

Oishii Sushi

Image
Oishii Sushi Bar, Sunnybank Hills Can anyone remember the heat wave we had in Brisbane on the 13th of January 2018? It was hot that day reaching probably up to 38C, and yet I was craving for some sushi. After much persuasion, I dragged Mr to Oishii Sushi Bar! Not sure whether it was our lucky or unlucky day as their AC broke down and they ran out of cold water, so they gave us free drinks instead! Talking about good service! Their sushi menu is so tempting and I could have ordered more but we had a light lunch before heading out. They ran out of the 'Snake roll' that day, and we ended up ordering the 'Spider Roll', which is the tempura soft shell crab sushi. Mr, who is a fan of soft shell crab enjoyed it very much.  Snake Roll As for me who likes unagi, I ordered the 'Unatama Maki'. Unlike Kotobuki Sushi who includes cream cheese into their sushi, I much prefer the sushi roll here. They are just very well proportioned in terms of rice to meat ...

Yum Cha Cuisine

Image
Yum Cha Cuisine, Westfield Garden City Quite a while ago, the in-laws took me to Yum Cha Cuisine in Garden City for my birthday dinner in September. There are a number of Yum Cha Cuisine branches and the one in Garden City was the only one I have visited so far. It was busy that night, however the service was still impeccable.  We ordered one of the set dinner, which was served with free soup and steamed rice. Besides that, we had additional small meals from the dim sum menu ( still ava ilable during dinner service ). Things to note is that, if we bring in our own personal tea le aves, the surcharge is $1/pax rather than the price of $2.50/pa x.  My cravings for sweet and sour pork continues during the pregnancy and it is a must order if we go out for Chinese cuisine . That night we had something similar, and I must say, I was satisfied. Other meals on our table include the roast chicken, seafood tom yum tofu, sizzling fish and black bean pork noodles.  ...

Golden Lane

Image
Golden Lane, Sunnybank Looks like there is a new yum cha restaurant in Brisbane! Golden Lane just opened last Sunday and currently offer 10% discount for the first week. Together with the in-laws, we visited this busy restaurant yesterday. We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes before our table is ready. The tableware is all new, with dipping sauces (chilli oil, vinegar, soy sauce) on the side. However, I did note that the tablecloth is a little dirty... Anyhow, straight to their menu! They offer some yum cha selection, together with congee, noodles, rice noodles and stir-fry dishes; or if you are keen, you can select dishes from their BIG colourful printed menu. As for us, we ordered from their paper menu and handed it over to the waitstaff. Do not be surprised if the waitstaff start using their mobile phone while working... From my observation, they were taking our order through a mobile app.  :) Menu Menu Some of our meals came by quickly and after some reminder,...

Ramen Champion

Image
Ramen Champion, Sunnybank One night, MXM and myself travelled to Sunnybank for some ramen in Ramen Champion. I have seen a few other bloggers who visited this place and I suggested to MXM to give this place a go. The ordering system is quite simple, where we just order at the cash counter, pay and proceed to our seats with a waiting number. My choice that night was the Champion Ramen; consisted of pork slices in pork bone broth. MXM had the Miso Champion and the difference is the soup base, in which his was miso pork bone soup. Champion Ramen - $9.90   Japanese gyoza - $4.90 Well, we both enjoyed the noodles. The soup broth that night was flavourful but quite 'thick'. It felt like the soup has been brewed for many many hours and has become quite concentrated. My noodles are quite fine in comparison to the Miso's noodle. I think it was all right. Their gyozas did not disappoint at all. Moreish!

Lunar Cuisine Restaurant

Image
Lunar Cuisine Restaurant, Sunnybank Lunar Cuisine is a fairly new restaurant in Sunnybank and we visited this place for dinner a couple of weeks ago with SaC's family. The menu here is seriously like a magazine and you order and tick through the form. Lunar specialises cuisine from a region of China (which I cannot remember or pronounce) but mostly spicy food! Free tea and congee available from the front section of the restaurant. We tried a number of dishes and the first one was the 'sliced boiled pork with garlic sauce'. I like this dish although the sauce can be quite spicy.  Sliced boiled pork with garlic sauce - $8 Another favourite dish of mine was the 'marinated roasted duck'. The meat was quite tender and marinated well with the soya sauce. I enjoyed it! Marinated Roasted Duck - $15 Lunar Cuisine has monthly promotion for a specific meal and the meal for that month was  this sweet and sour fish. The special deal was that this...

Haoke Chinese Restaurant (Revisited)

Image
Haoke Chinese Restaurant, Sunnybank Hills Quite a while ago, we visited Haoke for dinner. I have been to this place for dim sum and I think the dim sums here were quite reasonable in terms of flavour and price. This time, however, we tried their set dinner which consisted of six to seven dishes of Chinese food.  What should I say?  Some type of clams cooked in XO sauce I think. Hmm... the sauce was spicy and I don't think it was XO sauce. I don't really like it. Our tofu dish of the night. I thought this was all right, but my other three companions said otherwise. To be truthful, it really lacked the 'tofu flavour'. It is probably more of a steamed egg dish. The steamed fish in soy sauce was all right. Well, certainly cannot be compared to the 'freshness' of a live fish but this dish was a pass.  This was our vegetable dish of the night. It was more like a soup-y vegetable dish than a simple vegetable stir fry garlic; ...
