Motto Motto

Image
Motto Motto, Chermside Oops.. a burger on its own at Betty's Burger was not filling enough for us so we went to Motto Motto for our second dinner. Hehe! In comparison to Betty's Burger, it was not as busy and service was quick and prompt. The paper menu is easy to read and finally, we ordered a pork katsu curry with seaweed fries and the wagyu beef bento set (addition of miso soup, edamame and chicken karaage for an extra of $7.90). The curry sauce came separately, which is a good option as you can pour as much or as little as you want. However, the serving of the pork katsu was pretty small and after a few mouthful, there is certainly some leftover rice. Pork katsu curry ($13.50) and Wagyu beef ($15.50) In comparison, the wagyu beef was more generous, and was tender. I enjoyed nibbling on the rest of the tidbits of edamame, seaweed fries and the chicken karaage.  Motto Motto is a pretty modern Japanese restaurant and next time I would like to try their Japan...

Kinn Thai

Image
Kinn Thai, Upper Mount Gravatt After so long, I managed to have dinner at Kinn Thai to celebrate Father's Day! We had to celebrate it a week earlier as my in-laws had to fly to the States for their niece's wedding. I am always excited to have Thai food because it is so different from my usual home cooking, which tend to be more mild in flavours. What did we order? To start with, the chicken satay ($8) and ' Golden Tofu ' ($6). The tofu was mediocre, and unlike other fried tofu that I had tried. The batter of the fried tofu is more of a sticky texture rather than crispy, making it less desirable. The chicken satay was okay, with quite a nice peanut sauce. While the coconut chicken salad ($18) was fresh, after a few bites I was not keen to have it further. It is probably because the amount of herbs in the meal was just too overpowering. But luckily, the following few dishes were more impressive. The tom yum prawn ($13) was sour and spicy which is how I like it...

7 Palace Yum Cha

Image
7 Palace Yum Cha, Inala Shortly after the opening of Golden Lane, another Chinese Yum Cha restaurant known as 7 Palace opens in Inala. My MIL who reads Chinese newspaper noted that there will be 10% discount during the first month of their opening ( this was last year) and we visited them that time. The restaurant is situated in Inala Plaza and parking can actually be quite difficult to find despite the huge parking lot. The restaurant is really spacious and open. As it is a Vietnamese Chinese restaurant, the workers don't really converse in Mandarin or Cantonese, except for the manager and a few of the waitstaff. Since we were there for the dim sums, we were quite keen to try what they have on offer. Oh my, we certainly had a lot and even order one fried rice from the menu.  We had the usual suspects like ' har gow ', ' chee cheong fun ', ' BBQ pork bun ', ' egg tarts ' and other dumplings on offer. It is really a hit and miss for us. Som...

Yum Cha Cuisine

Image
Yum Cha Cuisine, Westfield Garden City Quite a while ago, the in-laws took me to Yum Cha Cuisine in Garden City for my birthday dinner in September. There are a number of Yum Cha Cuisine branches and the one in Garden City was the only one I have visited so far. It was busy that night, however the service was still impeccable.  We ordered one of the set dinner, which was served with free soup and steamed rice. Besides that, we had additional small meals from the dim sum menu ( still ava ilable during dinner service ). Things to note is that, if we bring in our own personal tea le aves, the surcharge is $1/pax rather than the price of $2.50/pa x.  My cravings for sweet and sour pork continues during the pregnancy and it is a must order if we go out for Chinese cuisine . That night we had something similar, and I must say, I was satisfied. Other meals on our table include the roast chicken, seafood tom yum tofu, sizzling fish and black bean pork noodles.  ...

Golden Lane

Image
Golden Lane, Sunnybank Looks like there is a new yum cha restaurant in Brisbane! Golden Lane just opened last Sunday and currently offer 10% discount for the first week. Together with the in-laws, we visited this busy restaurant yesterday. We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes before our table is ready. The tableware is all new, with dipping sauces (chilli oil, vinegar, soy sauce) on the side. However, I did note that the tablecloth is a little dirty... Anyhow, straight to their menu! They offer some yum cha selection, together with congee, noodles, rice noodles and stir-fry dishes; or if you are keen, you can select dishes from their BIG colourful printed menu. As for us, we ordered from their paper menu and handed it over to the waitstaff. Do not be surprised if the waitstaff start using their mobile phone while working... From my observation, they were taking our order through a mobile app.  :) Menu Menu Some of our meals came by quickly and after some reminder,...
