Siam Sensations

Image
Siam Sensations, Nundah Thai food is my next cravings following Vietnamese food. While Viet food is more simple and clean, Thai is usually filled with punchier flavour and more on the spicy side, which is what I crave for at times. Following our visit to Nundah Corner, we realised that this restaurant is fully pack with patrons sitting outside the restaurant! I told Mr that we had to give it a go next visit and we did. It was just too tempting not to try the 'Mix Entree' - spring roll, curry puff, satay chicken, steamed dim sim and keaw tod (which I assumed is the fried wanton). For $8.90, I think this is rather quite a bargain. The good thing about eating with your husband is that he does not mind sharing after me biting into each item. Among those, I think my favourite would be the curry puff, followed by the satay.  I never stray from not ordering a pad thai from a Thai restaurant, and we did. I really love their pad thai - the sauce was well balanced,...

Kinn Thai

Image
Kinn Thai, Upper Mount Gravatt After so long, I managed to have dinner at Kinn Thai to celebrate Father's Day! We had to celebrate it a week earlier as my in-laws had to fly to the States for their niece's wedding. I am always excited to have Thai food because it is so different from my usual home cooking, which tend to be more mild in flavours. What did we order? To start with, the chicken satay ($8) and ' Golden Tofu ' ($6). The tofu was mediocre, and unlike other fried tofu that I had tried. The batter of the fried tofu is more of a sticky texture rather than crispy, making it less desirable. The chicken satay was okay, with quite a nice peanut sauce. While the coconut chicken salad ($18) was fresh, after a few bites I was not keen to have it further. It is probably because the amount of herbs in the meal was just too overpowering. But luckily, the following few dishes were more impressive. The tom yum prawn ($13) was sour and spicy which is how I like it...

Longtime

Image
Longtime, Fortitude Valley Longtime has been on my wishlist for a very long time and finally, I had the chance to visit it with MXM, who is a frequent diner here. He must have tried almost all of Longtime's cocktails! Hehe! While he prefers a hint of chilli in his drink, I opted for something more refreshing with no alcohol. We sipped on our drinks outside while waiting to be seated. Luckily after about 30 minutes wait, we got our seat on the kitchen bench and it was exciting watching all the calm actions in the kitchen. Our friendly bartender/waitstaff had our order and I could not wait for our meals to arrive! First up were the Longtime's bao (chicken, pork and soft shell crab). I did not try the soft shell crab bao because crab is considered a ' no no ' in pregnancy having afraid that the baby will have 11 fingers!! Well, I had some during first trimester and Little G has 10 toes and 10 fingers... Back to their baos: They were pretty small in siz...

Chin Chin

Image
Chin Chin, Melbourne CBD These days, conference seem to be the only opportunity for me to travel out of Brisbane. The EMCORE conference this year was held in Melbourne and together with MXM, we attended this full on conference focusing on emergency topics. Phew! Luckily we managed to dose ourselves with caffeine prior to the start of day. Dinner became our priority as we spent almost all day listening to lectures. One of my 'to-go-list' was Chin Chin. I did warned him though that there is usually a long wait. There was no exception that night and we queued and waited for at least 1.5 hours before getting our seats. ( Well, we did walked around and had some crepe before dinner ) Mr Benjamin Cooper, the head chef of Chin Chin had just made an appearance in MasterChef Aus that week. Imagine my excitement when I saw a glimpse of him in the kitchen! Chin Chin's menu is simple and straight forward. For an option of 'Feed Me' and at $69 per person, a selection of ...

Cafe de Siam

Image
Cafe de Siam, Paddington Finally, I have the time to sit down and update my blog! Last few weeks have been busy and not to mention a holiday trip to Tasmania ... :) Cafe de Siam is unknown to me until my housemate, Klin told me about it. It is her favourite Thai restaurant. Being a Thai herself, she obviously knows better  than me what makes good and delicious Thai food! So, on our way to Paddington to visit Cafe de Siam for her birthday ( this is back in August! ).... As a frequent flyer, Klin is well-known to the owner of this shop and she had no trouble deciding what food to have for dinner! Klin already had her mind on the Crispy fish salad. Crispy Fish Salad - $16.90 Fresh salad mix, lemongrass, mint tossed with a dash of chilli jam and lime juice dressing with crushed peanuts What's amazing about this dish was the freshness of the salad, the crispiness of the fish and the dressing! The salad dressing was really simple with a hint of sourness fr...

Zap Thai

Image
Zap Thai, Kangaroo Point Initially planning to go to Kotobuki again, the long queue however deterred me from doing so. Opposite to it is Zap Thai, which does look pretty deserted in comparison to the sushi-selling shop. Anyway, Simco and myself decided to give it a go! Looking at the menu, we finally opted for the 'Zap Thai Pack 1 @ $35' which include: Entree: Spring rolls and Curry Puffs Both spring rolls and curry puffs were pretty good.  For mains, we had one curry and one stir fry with the choice of either chicken, beef or pork. Haven't tried massaman curry before, I opted for the chicken massaman curry. Chicken Massaman Curry The chicken was really tender with pieces of potatoes and the nuts adding some crunch in this curry. I got no idea how massaman curry supposed to taste like but I think it was all right, with mild spiciness. This dish came with a bowl of steamed rice. Our next stir-fry dish is a vegetarian pad-thai. Veget...

Siam Samrarn

Image
Siam Samrarn, South Brisbane The three musketeers (Lin sisters and myself) went to Siam Samrarn for a get together after CNY. The decor although not as Thai-ish like My Thai Restaurant, it still exudes a nice ambience. Patrons can opt to sit either inside or outside.  For entree, we had the 'Grill Marinated Pork', which was recommended by the waiter. He said that it's popular. Grilled Marinated Pork -$8 Thai style marinated pork on skewers Hmmm... the pork was so tough and chewy, making it really difficult to bite the meat off. Trying to be as ladylike as possible, we used fork and spoon (yeah, no knife) and it turned out to be energy consuming and tedious. The flavour was there but I'm disappointed with the toughness of the pork. We ordered a chicken Pad Thai. Pad Thai Siam Samrarn's pad thai definitely make up for the previous disappointment. The flavour was in balance, not overly sweet, spicy nor sour. Young Lin just got back from Syd...
