On a weekend back in Brisbane, the Mr and myself had dinner in the CBD. Tossing between Japanese and a variety of Korean restaurants, we finally walked up the stairs to Warawara Izakaya (after near heated discussion). Neither of us have visited Warawara and we got no clue how their system work or even what food is good! Their ordering system is similar to Mad Tong San, pressing the buzzer when ready to order.

Well, we followed the advice of the waiter and ordered the black bean noodles, while I ordered sushi and Mr ordered the okonomiyaki. While waiting for the mains to arrive, we were served with small plates of kimchi and tofu (which was yummy!). We wanted more of the tofu but it ran out and they served this 'jelly-like' dish below.

Both of us enjoy soft shell crab sushi and I ordered one to try. It is quite different and I am not sure what kind of sauce is poured over the sushi. It tasted pretty good.

Black bean noodles

We enjoyed their seafood black bean sauce noodles. The flavour was certainly new to our tastebud and we kept slurping the noodles that night!

Okonomiyaki
The okonomiyaki was quite tasty with generous servings of the bonito flakes. Overall, we enjoyed the meals here in Warawara.

The Journey to the West!  It took less than 2 hours to Toowoomba (largest non-capital inland city) from Brisbane. Together with AQ, we were on the way to visit MXM. The weather wasn't promising with the grey clouds on the horizon. Anyway, first pit-stop: Engine Room Cafe Once in Toowoomba, MXM took control of the wheel and brought us sight-seeing. The 'city' is tiny in comparison to Brisbane! To fill our hungry tummies, we had brunch in Engine Room Cafe, with a souvenir shop attached to it.  We ordered at the counter and had a skinny flat white. I think the coffee was OK, I wasn't really a big fan of it.  Flat White - $3.70 AQ had French toast. He wiped clean his plate. I'm assuming it's good. Milk Cafe, Ashgrove

  Milk Cafe, Ashgrove Throwback to late last year when we visited Milk Cafe in Ashgrove. It is just adjacent to Woolworths Ashgrove and you will not miss it. Plenty of parking is available in the complex. Famous for its milkshake, we did not order any as we get quite apprehensive when the kids are so high in sugar 😅. I could not remember the exact dish we had that day but the first dish was poached eggs with bacon, and cripsy potatoes with addition of haloumi. Little M dislikes cheese but she will gobble up the haloumi in no time. We had the pancakes as well and they were fluffy and soft. The girls thankfully enjoyed them, as sometimes they can be picky with their food.  The indoor setting is reasonably large and there is outdoor setting as well. Newmarket Hotel

  Newmarket Hotel, Newmarket  Newmarket Hotel has been on our regular place to visit as it is quite a family friendly restaurant; and obviously quite close to home. It can get quite busy at times but as we usually dine when restaurants open (5 or 5.30pm) so it was not too bad. Parking is ample with the complex's undercover parking. What I love about Newmarket hotel is that they do have kid's meal and Grace always enjoy their chicken tenders. Yay! The kid's meal come with a drink (and the drink container can be brought home) and ice cream for dessert. No photo for her meal but we ordered it with steamed vegetables. If you are a seafood lover, give their calamari a go! They are beautifully crumbed and cooked just right. This is an entree size but you can upgrade to the main size.
