Freestyle Tout

Freestyle Tout, West End

Freestyle Tout, located at the intersection between Boundary St and Melbourne St, is famous for their desserts they offer. All at a fixed price of $15.90. In the current menu, there are about seventeen varieties of desserts to choose from (tarts, puddings, cheesecake, sundae ...) Besides that, there are specials that they offer last Friday: yoghurt and apricot cake, spiced banana & date pudding, White chocolate & raspberry cheesecake, and Cocoluscious sundae.

Four of us YL, AL, R and myself had quite a hard time deciding which dessert to order. Finally, we decided on these three desserts to share:

Vanilla Creme Brulee
 Vanilla Creme Brulee
topped with fairy floss & served with mixed berries,
nut biscotti & raspberry sorbet

There was a crunch when R snapped the caramelised sugar of the creme brulee. The custard was creamy and the sweetness was just right. However, the creme brulee can be perfected if it has a smoother consistency and preferably with a stronger vanilla flavour.
Otherwise, it was pretty good. The vanilla ice cream and raspberry sorbet were both delicious. The accompaniments: no fault with the fairy floss and the crunched nuts added some saltiness to this dessert. I don't favour the biscotti ... it just doesn't taste like the biscotti that I used to have.

White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake
One of the specials of the day:
White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake
served with berry compote,
double cream and vanilla bean ice cream

Hmmm.... my least favourite of the three. How should I describe this dessert? I expected a cheesy cake but this cake was not cheesy at all. It tasted more like a white chocolate cake rather than a true cheesecake. Otherwise, the flavour combination of white chocolate and raspberry blended in perfection.
White Chocolate Raspberry Brioche Dumplings
 White Chocolate Raspberry Brioche Dumplings
with berries, vanilla bean ice cream
&
choice of white/dark chocolate dipping sauce

This dessert is usually served with three dumplings put we paid extra $2 for the fourth dumpling. We were unanimous for the choice of dark chocolate dipping sauce. The dark chocolate sauce was thick and creamy but it's not the best chocolate sauce out there. The dumplings were deep fried and coated with caster sugar. Halving the dumplings, the white chocolate and raspberry oozes out ... Yum! Even better, serve it with some vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate sauce.

Overall, it was a good dining experience in Freestyle. The service and ambience were good but parking can be a nuisance on a Friday night. Thanks to YL for inviting me out and celebrating my birthday! This is just the beginning of my birthday food escapade! :)
