Day 3 and 4: Germany!

Finally, after Brussels, we made our way to Germany! The country where supposedly you can drive without a maximum speed limit? It is definitely an experience driving on German autobahnen 'autobahn'. With a little persuasion to my brother and mom, i get to drive too! The night before i managed to brush up my manual driving skills after not driving a manual car for a few years. The car engine died a couple of times, hehe! But, good thing, the engine did not died in the motorway. It was such an adrenaline rush just driving in Germany, everyone else is so fast, i was in the middle lane and already at about 140-150 km/h, imagine the fast lane!

Mom is so happy! Her wish of seeing snow is finally granted! Not sure whether this is a good thing or not, you'll know later. The day we are going to Germany.

First stop in Germany is Koln or Cologne. This is the famous Koln Cathedral. Luckily we managed to take some pictures before the sun sets. I remembered when i was once in Germany, i had a bad tummy ache and i had to rest in the bus. That was the day when my other relatives were visiting this church. Now, i have the chance to look at it too!
During the stop here, we had Chinese dinner. Yup, Chinese dinner in Germany! And i can clearly remember that it was the same restaurant we went during my last trip to Germany. How ironic is that? i My memory is becoming bad now. I don't remember what we did after Koln... I think we continued our journey to Frankfurt and overnight there... The next day to Heidelberg....

Famous Heidelberg red castle! There is an entrance fee to enter the castle.  I remembered that there is a huge wine cask in the castle.
The view from the inside of the castle to the surroundings! Beautiful!
After touring Heidelberg castle, we continued our journey to Black Forest. I remembered that it was snowing quite heavily and we were driving past all this hills to Black Forest. Apparently, Black Forest is famous for the cuckoo clock production. We reached there (pretty late) and was quite disappointed! =( There were only souvenir shops that sells cuckoo clock but no factory that made cuckoo clocks!  I decided to buy a cuckoo clock since we were already there.

Picture taken in Black Forest. A beautiful lake...
After that, we continued our journey to Munich. We reached there pretty late at night (about 9 pm). I remembered that i was the one driving to Munich city. The weather was getting really bad, with all the snow pouring down. All the cars were slowing down... I was quite worried and scared that time because the road was getting slippery due to the snow and i don't have experience driving on these stormy conditions! I couldn't stop and let my brother drive because he said that i shouldn't change lane right now because the car may just swerve around.... More worried that time!!! Finally somehow the car engine died and luckily i was at the side of the road, and my brother said, 'Aiyo, quickly move seat and let me drive now!' What a relief! It was getting late and now we are worried that we couldn't find a place to spend the night.... but we managed to finally....

Mom's dish: Salmon with barley risotto

My dish: Some kind of potatoes cooked with pieces of pork. It's really good.

Brother's dish: Pork with potato dumpling. He finished the pork but not the potato. I tried the potato but it seems very starchy.

After settling in the motel, it is time to get some food! We managed to find a German/Bavarian restaurant  nearby. We had dinner at about 10 pm. We were starving that time and luckily the food is superb! After dinner, everyone is just so exhausted and quickly went back to the motel. Once my head hits the bed, i fall asleep immediately.
The next morning, the car was covered with snow... My brother had trouble driving the car out and luckily some passerby helped us push the car, we managed to drive out to the road. They told my brother to put into third gear instead of first gear, and it did work! Germans are so friendly!

I don't really know what statue is this, we were just driving around and stop just to take some pictures. It was freezing cold, and the snow on the ground were at least 20 cm high!
After Munich, we made our way to Rothenberg to see the famous castles. It was an adventure driving there. The weather did not get any better but we decided to push on. To cut long story short, we got stucked...illegal to drive without snow tyres... find tyre shops.... changed to snow tyres.... new passengers (4 tyres) in car.... so uncomfortable....made it to Rothenberg....late....can't see the castles....closed.....  Disappointed but at least we made it there safe and sound! A lesson to learnt in the future: change your tyres! =)
We don't have enough time to make it to another castle and the weather was getting dark soon. Quickly took this picture before dark. Another castle in the background.
These two days seemed like a waste of time... We were rushing here and there trying to go to all these places. Oh well, there was definitely good food in between; learnt about changing tyres; had experience driving in Germany and also experience driving in these snowy conditions. I guess my brother and i shouldn't have plan too much to begin with. Other that that, it was quite an interesting journey... to be continued...
