Too busy to cook and buy food, I have been consuming instant noodles, random Japanese and Korean snacks and not to forget my crunchy peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwich since the past two weeks. Since young, I don’t like jam (any flavours available) because they are either too sour or sweet. I’m weird! However, last Saturday I had sudden cravings for orange marmalade with peanut butter and I finished a bottle of orange marmalade in five days…

What else has been happening the past two weeks? The celebration of the ‘Nine Emperor Gods Festival’ kicked start on the 27th September 2011 until 5th October 2011; lasting for nine days. This festival is usually celebrated by Taoists around the world on the ninth day of the ninth month in the Chinese calendar. According to beliefs, it signifies the return of the Nine Emperor spirits from heaven to earth. During this period, devotees need to observe a strict vegetarian diet for nine days excluding all meat products and dairy products (milk, eggs, cheese, etc). 

Guess what? I have been following this strict vegetarian diet last week although I did consume some muffins and birthday cake (made by Jen) … oh well, I tried to be as strict as I possibly can!

Supposedly to go out for dinner with a friend last night, something unexpected and probably embarrassing occurred. Luckily, G was around to accompany me during the whole ordeal… Phew! 

Finally, I had the chance to go out for a proper meal today. I had Eurovida in my mind but later decided to go to Anouk instead. These two cafes are only a few shops away from each other … fierce competition!

Hmm... nothing on the menu capture me. Instead, the specials of the day 'corn, coriander fritters with chili pancetta, rocket and fresh tomato salsa' sounds interesting to me. It was a little difficult trying to read the specials menu written on the glass. 

Drink's menu
I have been consuming too much caffeine the past week and this time I opted for one of their 'Muddled' drinks. I chose the 'Peach Passionfruit Lime soda'.




Peach, passionfruit and lime soda - $6


First sip: tangy lime flavour with bubbly carbonated water! The lime flavour seems to have overpowered the peach-passionfruit flavour. Nevertheless, it was still good and refreshing.


Corn and coriander fritters, chili pancetta, rocket and fresh tomato salsa - $16.50


I can already smell the aroma of fried pancetta when this was presented on my table. The spiciness of pancetta was just right for me, not too spicy. The flavour of the corn and coriander fritters was well-balanced.  Eat it with the crunchy pancetta or with the fresh tomato salsa! Yum!

Tibetan Kitchen, West End Finally, I have the time to catch up on blogging! Yay! After a sweaty and tired workout in Urban Climb for an indoor rock-climbing (more than a month ago!) , the five of us made our way to Tibetan Kitchen for a late dinner. It was a Friday night and there was people bustling around Trang and its neighbour, Tibetan Kitchen. Haven't had the taste or any clues about Tibetan food, we were lucky because one of our company had spent his time in Tibet for a month. He did warned us beforehand that the food here wasn't as authentic as the food in Tibet though.  Anyway, after much contemplation, we ordered: Pakhora Onion Baje - 6.90 Crispy fried onion patties served with yoghurt & cucumber sauce The pakhora was all right. Newmarket Hotel

  Newmarket Hotel, Newmarket  Newmarket Hotel has been on our regular place to visit as it is quite a family friendly restaurant; and obviously quite close to home. It can get quite busy at times but as we usually dine when restaurants open (5 or 5.30pm) so it was not too bad. Parking is ample with the complex's undercover parking. What I love about Newmarket hotel is that they do have kid's meal and Grace always enjoy their chicken tenders. Yay! The kid's meal come with a drink (and the drink container can be brought home) and ice cream for dessert. No photo for her meal but we ordered it with steamed vegetables. If you are a seafood lover, give their calamari a go! They are beautifully crumbed and cooked just right. This is an entree size but you can upgrade to the main size. I tried their fish - special of the day; barramundi with some crispy pumpkin/potatoes and the 'sauce'. Honestly, I did not expect it, as this was more like a gravy sauce dish. The portion was

Milk Cafe, Ashgrove

  Milk Cafe, Ashgrove Throwback to late last year when we visited Milk Cafe in Ashgrove. It is just adjacent to Woolworths Ashgrove and you will not miss it. Plenty of parking is available in the complex. Famous for its milkshake, we did not order any as we get quite apprehensive when the kids are so high in sugar 😅. I could not remember the exact dish we had that day but the first dish was poached eggs with bacon, and cripsy potatoes with addition of haloumi. Little M dislikes cheese but she will gobble up the haloumi in no time. We had the pancakes as well and they were fluffy and soft. The girls thankfully enjoyed them, as sometimes they can be picky with their food.  The indoor setting is reasonably large and there is outdoor setting as well. Bonus--> it is part of the Entertainment book's voucher. But ya, we will be back one day.  Breakfast at Milk Cafe
