Carolina Kitchen - food for the soul

So, what is soul food? I have to wiki it and found some info about 'soul food'. From wikipedia, soul food seems to consist of African Americans cuisine and is closely related to Southern United States. It's definitely an interesting read. :)

The night before, a friend told me that he just shared a Bucket of Wings (25 pc) with another friend in Carolina Kitchen and craved how good they were. Too lazy to cook that night, G and I headed to Carolina Kitchen (situated at a corner in a quiet neighbourhood). It's a really small restaurant and probably sits about 14 people to the max. I think it caters more for take-aways.

I wanted to try little bit of everything and after deciding, I ordered and paid at the counter.

Buffalo wings (6pc) - $7.95
The original American hot wing with a blue cheese dipping sauce (mild or hot)
Obviously I have to give the wings a go! Hmm... What can I say about them? They were a little too burned and as a result, quite dry. (I showed this pic to that friend and he said the wings they had weren't burnt). Anyway, the blue cheese dipping sauce was pretty good.

Corn Bread (when available) - $3.95
I haven't tasted corn bread before so I can't really compare it to others. From what I can remember, the corn bread tasted like corn chips especially when dipped into the tomato salsa.

Aunt Lilly Mae's BBQ ribs
Regular - $15.95
slow cooked in their special BBQ sauce served with
Southern Potato salad

Can I say I was a little uncouth that time? Can't be bothered with a fork and knife, I grabbed one piece of the rib with my fingers and bite the meat off the bone. Meh, I can wash my hand later at the sink. :) The meat was quite tender and definitely bursting with their BBQ sauce flavour. Not the best but not that bad either.

Finally, we ordered their chips too:

New York Fries - $7.95
Made famous in New York
Fries topped with cheese, salsa and sour cream
The fries pretty good, with its crunchy texture and I especially liked the one topped with melted cheese.

We ate a lot that night (but couldn't finish the fries and the wings). The worker came to collect our plates and seemed surprised that we managed to finish most of it. Don't underestimate these two girls! :D

In conclusion, Carolina Kitchen is 'OK'. Their service is good with friendly staff and their food is quite decent. I just don't like leaving the place with a smoky smell to my clothes.
